Director Mauro Borrelli Discusses Vision of Film

BURBANK, CA (June 14, 2010) —The BOX OF SHADOWS production team has posted two new webisodes featuring behind-the-scenes footage, interviews with actors Aaron Dean Eisenberg and Liz Fenning, and director Mauro Borrelli describing his vision for the film for the first time.

“We wanted to give audiences a taste of the movie while we continue working on the more than 200 visual effects for the final feature,” said producer Ed Polgardy.

Webisodes 1 & 2 can be found on the BOX OF SHADOWS website at http://www.boxofshadowsthemovie.com/ in the “Trailer” section, under “View Trailer & Videos”, and are also available on the BOX OF SHADOWS Vimeo channel, YouTube channel, MySpace and Facebook pages. Webisode 3 will be posted later in the month. The clips will eventually be part of a larger featurette being created by Douglas Brian Miller of MSI Arts Productions.

In Webisode 2, Borrelli talks about how he came up with the original idea of a mechanical coffin that allows users to temporarily experience death when he encountered a real antique coffin on the streets of Venice, Italy. “I’m always inspired by the visual elements, so my approach is always visual in the beginning,” Borrelli says.

Borrelli also explains how the mechanical coffin, besides being an intriguing concept for a supernatural thriller, serves as a metaphor for drug addiction. “Like a drug, it gives you an apparent boost of life, but it’s slowly killing you,” he says.

The clips feature producers Polgardy, Gabriella Stollenwerck, and Scott Rudolph talking about the ideas behind the film, as well as screenwriter Scott Svatos, editor Charles Bornstein, A.C.E., art director Mike Gaglio, director of photography Eric Gustavo Petersen, and visual effects supervisor Maxim Matthew describing the construction of the movie.

“When you look at the movie, you’ll see things that we can all relate to on some level -- being obsessed, being addicted, finding ourselves in a bad situation that we’re trying to get out of,” says Svatos. “You have to ask yourself, what would happen to me if I had a device like that? How would I use it?

”Borrelli is best known for his concept work on movies such as PLANET OF THE APES, THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW, and BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA. Francis Ford Coppola describes Borrelli as “a talented artist” with “an exceptional ability to bring his many ideas to life.”

Look for BOX OF SHADOWS to be released later this year.
